Dear nourishing hero Reader,
I began my nutrition career, 30 years ago due to major digestive distress as a young person and adult.
I claimed myself to be a digestion expert. Well, I have news for us, our hormones change EVERY 7 years, so what we once knew may have worked, may not now. And some of you may know, that healing and health isn't a straight line, it can throw us some doozy curve balls along the way.
However, there is a WAY to detangle and problem-solve with ease.
A dear friend is having major trouble with constipation. She shared what she has been experimenting with over the last few years. Poop alert, I am going to be descriptive here... Her doctor had to physically remove her stuckness from her colon. And then she has been doing this herself in the shower for the last few years. We will get a colonoscopy scheduled for her soon, but in the meantime, will try to clean the hatches first.
The 3 major aspects for healing constipation are Water, Fiber and Magnesium.
The issues most people experience are dehydration, a diet low in fiber and this thing called STRESS, which depletes magnesium from our body in seconds.
So my friend and I tackled her constipation by adding in Triphala (3 fruits for digestion in Ayurvedic medicine), and Magnesium to drink and the backup was to apply topically, and she increased drinking herbal tea and water throughout the day.
IT WORKED! She naturally evacuated without manual effort and we will monitor her for a while.
The major thing I notice for others and myself, is our lack of patience and self-compassion during these intense times of stress.
I was troubleshooting some symptoms for myself with digestion and intense hormonal shifts. I was not as patient or understanding with myself and my body as I would have coached.
What do we do in these times of crisis?
Besides seeking health practitioners and healing modalities that you trust, you give yourself time, space and self-compassion for trial and error.
No one knows your body better than you. I said this to a friend the other day...
"If you fill the rut, it will heal your gut".
The rut was referring to our brain's neural pathways. We can create deep ruts with OLD beliefs, thoughts, and habits.
Then our gut and butt get the brunt of it. See all of the rhymes:)
My major rut is when I am overwhelmed, and catch the thoughts, "I have to do it all myself, but nobody understands me".
Can you guess that this is NOT a healing environment for the body?
We need to shift our thoughts along with how we approach change.
My new mantra is: I am supported and my body loves me. Healing and wellness pursue me with EASE.
To aid you in developing your new conscious thought pathways, my dear friend David Fugel and I are leading a LIVE 4-week Self-Compassion Class to give your 2023 a self-love send-off.
I love the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses, and all of the research on compassion, heart math and Positive Psychology.
During these 4-weeks, which are in between the holidays on purpose, you will identify some of your Achilles heel patterns that take you down, and what you can do to lift yourself up. Sign up below or let me know if you have any questions.

Dear nourisher Reader, Have you ever said, "I will start tomorrow"? Then, right after this thought, do you discard taking your supplements, skip exercising or stretching, and then splurge on your favorite no-no foods? I ALMOST had one of those days yesterday. We had a proper, relentless rainstorm here in Southern California. Growing up in Nebraska, yesterday would have definitely been classified as a snow day. The good news is my tiny house held up well, phew:) I woke up early and had intense...
Dear nourishing hero Reader, How does a song go viral, or a new restaurant pick up customers so fast? The definition of collective consciousness: is a sociological concept that refers to common ideas, attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge that are shared amongst a social group, organization, or society. We can share similar preferences and cravings with each other. These preferences unite us and we feel seen, supported, and connected to our fellow humans. But then we also trigger the heck out of...
Dear nourishing hero Reader, Why is it that some days we feel we can take on anything and then others we want to stay curled up in a ball? As an avid seeker, trying ANYTHING new to feel hope and satisfaction, and wanting to be saved from outside sources, health protocols, diets, the next NEW thing or you name it, I decided to lay down the seeking addict in me and replace this by learning and practicing self-trust. These manic emotions, anxiety, co-dependent insecurities, and desperate...
